FOCO CIVIL / UNDERSTAND AND ACT
Understand to make better decisions

Current example: a campaign statement about pensions cannot by itself establish what parties will do. We separate claims, documents and verifiable facts.
Read the pensions analysis →Clear explanations, everyday examples and room to acknowledge what we do not yet know.
Announced, granted, paid: three different things
Imagine funding announced for a building repair. An announcement communicates an intention or measure. A grant awards assistance under conditions. A payment records a transfer. None alone proves the works are complete. That requires separate evidence.
Testimony opens a question
A neighbour’s account deserves attention. Publishing it as verified fact requires corroboration. Asking for documents or the other party’s response helps establish what is known and what is missing.
From the neighbourhood to the world
Science and technology still belong here when they help explain our lives. Earlier stories and guides remain in the archive with their original dates.
Explore science and technology →Expert voices, in context
We will attribute ideas and distinguish explanation, opinion and evidence. Journalists and television programmes are not presented as partners without an actual collaboration. Foco Civil is an independent project.
