Feijóo tasks Albiol with an anti-squatting bill: a proposal, not a law

PP · HOUSING · 18/10/2026 · Editorial review: 19 October 2026

PP announced the assignment on 18 October. The bill’s text and likely effects still need scrutiny.

What happened

In a statement on 18 October, Partido Popular said Alberto Núñez Feijóo had asked Xavier García Albiol to lead a future anti-squatting bill. This is the party’s campaign position and a political assignment, not an enacted law.

What it means and what we do not know

Assessing the proposal requires a draft bill, the legal situations covered, court timelines, safeguards for owners and tenants, and an implementation estimate. Squatting, unpaid rent and unlawful entry are distinct situations.

What we will track

We will track whether a bill is filed and how Parliament handles it. Without a published text, no specific measure can be described as forthcoming law.
