La Palma: contract awarded for 118 homes, with a 29-month timeframe

Foco Civil editorial desk · Documentary review: 18 October 2026. Each development is dated separately.

On 14 October, Gestur Canarias announced a contract with Abaldo to design and build 118 protected homes in Los Llanos de Aridane. The contract is worth €26,549,150, with a maximum combined timeframe of 29 months. This is a procurement milestone; the homes are not reported as delivered.

A works contract is not a housing allocation

The release does not identify recipient families or establish a handover date. We therefore do not count these homes as occupied. The commitment can now be followed through construction progress and eventual availability to households.

Puerto Naos and La Bombilla: return permits, not rebuilt homes

On 15 September, the Cabildo authorised returns to two further homes, bringing permitted properties to 1,182 in Puerto Naos and 65 in La Bombilla. These are permits for existing properties, not counts of returned households or homes rebuilt after destruction by lava. Gas monitoring remained part of reopening.

Recovery also means everyday living conditions

On 19 September, RTVE reported people still in temporary accommodation and rebuilding difficulties caused by land and material costs and shortages of workers. Its report put LP-2 reconstruction above 30% completion, with completion forecast for the first four months of 2027. These are the status and forecast reported then, not completed works.

Three different outcomes

Receiving compensation, obtaining permission to return and securing a permanent home address different needs. Counting permits as new homes or contracts as completed homes would inflate recovery. This coverage keeps them separate so administrative progress does not hide a household’s continued wait.
