Flooding in La Safor and Marina Alta: what is known and how to stay safe
EMERGENCY · VALENCIAN COMMUNITY · 19 OCT 2026, 09:20 CEST
The Adam weather system has caused flooding in towns along southern Valencia and northern Alicante. Alerts change quickly: official phone warnings and the 112 emergency service take priority over this page.
If you are in an affected area, avoid travelling, do not cross floodwater on foot or by car, and follow alerts from the Valencian 112 service. Call 112 in an emergency.
Check Generalitat emergency updates ↗What authorities have reported
According to EFE’s reporting this morning, the Generalitat emergency coordination centre sent an Es-Alert to southern Valencia and northern Alicante telling people to avoid travel and remain indoors. The regional emergency minister urged particular caution in La Safor and Marina Alta. The Generalitat activated emergency level 2 and convened its crisis committee early in the day.
EFE attributes to Oliva’s mayor a preliminary figure of about 2,000 people evacuated from seven campsites. It also reports rescues in Oliva and flooding in Els Poblets after the Girona river overflowed. These are preliminary figures attributed to officials, not a final count of people affected.
Why the danger can outlast the rain
On 17 October, AEMET warned of very heavy, persistent rainfall along the Mediterranean coast and in the Balearic Islands through Monday 19 October. Civil Protection warns that streams and low-lying areas can flood suddenly. Rain may stop where you are while water from upstream still raises a river. Do not use this article to decide whether a road is open: check official channels before travelling.
Civil Protection advises against crossing flooded areas, urges people to move to higher ground and warns against trying to save a vehicle during flooding. If you must evacuate, follow emergency instructions. We do not present unlicensed images or photographs from other floods as pictures of today.
What remains unknown
A consolidated damage assessment, the status of each road and the duration of restrictions remain unknown. This report covers information checked at 09:20 CEST; consult AEMET and 112 updates before taking action.
